Profanity, Yoga, and Robots: Fighting Pain

3 Surprising Pain Remedies:
“Profanity, Yoga, and Robots”

That felt better.  No, I’m not kidding.

#3 Profanity:
“Scientists from Keele University found that letting . . . foul language can have a powerful painkilling effect, especially for people who do not normally use expletive[s],” reported the Telegraph.

Researchers then proceeded to explain the science behind this strange finding. The research proves that swearing triggers an emotional response [and] physical one too, which may explain why the centuries-old practice of cursing developed and why it still persists today.”

Dr Stephens, who worked on the project, said: ”Swearing has been around for centuries and is an almost universal human linguistic phenomenon.”
Sure, it’s probably only a quick-fix, but at least you don’t have to feel guilty next time you let one slip…just blame it on your highly developed “highly developed human linguistic phenomenon.”

#2 Yoga (Don’t Forget Pregnancy-Yoga):
Researchers have found that yoga can have a positive effect on a stress-related hormone.  In sum, more yoga =  less stress. The condition, which predominantly affects women, is characterized by chronic pain and fatigue; common symptoms include muscle stiffness, sleep disturbances, gastrointestinal discomfort, anxiety and depression.

Previous research has found that women with fibromyalgia have lower-than-average cortisol levels, which contribute to pain, fatigue and stress sensitivity.  Read the Science Daily Article here.  The authors noted [about the participants], “[T[hey felt less helpless, were more accepting of their condition, and were less likely to “catastrophize” over current or future symptoms.”

Here are some of the most popular yoga resources:

Brilliant Yoga:
Complete step-by-step overview of all the ways yoga can cure, alleviate or minimize the most common problems you’re dealing with – from stress to chronic fatigue, weight problems to athletic overuse injuries, and depression to prenatal needs.

Online Yoga Instructor: This online teacher’s training home study course is comprehensive. No secrets, wisdom or knowledge is withheld. In addition to learning the profound art of yoga, you will also be taught Meditation and Pranayama, as well as the practical wisdom on how to run a successful yoga studio

Pregnancy Yoga: During pregnancy, you’ll find your joints and ligaments loosen, due to the increase of the hormone relaxin, making the body more vulnerable to strain and injury…

“Pregnancy Yoga” is a real thing.

So it’s essential you find an experienced teacher who gently guides you through the exercises.

However, when I researched the market I found no on-line courses or videos that included all this vital information, so I decided to make my own series, based on my expert knowledge and the material from the classes I teach locally each week.

Here are some resources for pain management:

7 Second Pain Relief “Mornings are hardly bearable and you barely manage waking up just because you’re still feeling exhausted from a lack of sleep caused debilitating pain. Physically getting out of bed and starting to move is a whole other chore because of the pain and stiffness. If you’re heading off to work, then you’re faced with a very uncomfortable drive. If you’re a full time driver then an entire day of terrible pain is ahead of you. Once you start working, standing or sitting at your desk the hours of burning pain is excruciating and makeshard to get anything done.”

Back Pain, Sciatica – Bulging Disc Relief: If you’ve experienced chronic pain for months, or even years, and have yet to find a permanent cure, then this is definitely the most important letter you will ever read!

The Back Pain Advisor:  3 laws that govern the behavior of the body:

The Law of Healing: “If the body works well and is maintained, in the future any aches and pains will heal themselves quickly – in a matter of days.”
The Law of Habit: “change the habits. Otherwise problems keep returning.”
The Law of Increase: if the body is in balance then with time everything improves . . .You are supposed to get better with time if you are in balance. As you age you should improve, not experience more pain.”

When a loved one is in pain and is having difficulty communicating, be on the lookout for the above important and serious symptoms.

#1 Machines

some “machines” are more promising than others.

Machines are the wave of the future.  Bionic arms, legs, motorized fingers, eyes … things we used to think about as science fiction.  Machines  – “robots” – or whatever you would like to call them will increasingly serve to alleviate the pain of humans as modern medicine advances.   See the following video from CNN:

Finally, remember that drugs (specifically opiates) are not a long-term solution to pain.

There are private programs and resources if you or a loved one is facing is depression.
