If you’re a fan of the musical “Godspell,” I would like to invite you and your friends and family to attend a wonderful local youth production this weekend of this much-beloved classic Broadway show. Based on the Gospel of Matthew, the show combines comedy, drama, dance and amazing music in a modern retelling of Christ’s ministry and teachings. The show is being performed by ALIVE! — the Youth Drama Ministry at Fairfax United Methodist Church (10300 Stratford Ave, Fairfax, VA 22030) in Fairfax City, and they’re doing 3 shows — Friday night and Saturday night at 7:30pm, and a Sunday matinee at 2:30. Free admission (there will be a freewill offering taken), free parking, and a guaranteed great time!
I watched a dress rehearsal last night, and I can tell you that this is a phenomenal, professional-quality production! The cast is amazing; most of them are youth members (age 13-18) of our church, and most of the boys are also active in Scouting (which everyone knows is the main thing I do other than practice Elder Law). Despite their age, most of these talented youth have been in multiple musicals over the years and they are all fantastic singers, actors, and dancers. (And no, I am truly not at all biased, despite the fact that my son, Timothy, is part of the cast and sings the “All Good Gifts” solo).
The main adults behind the show are our extremely talented director, who has made musicals for 11 years; our choreographer and set designer, who is a professional artist and dancer who has done dozens of musical productions and has even done work for the White House; our sound director, who works professionally in the audio-visual industry; and our lighting director, who puts Broadway lighting directors to shame. There’s even a live band (piano, string bass, guitar, and drums) of professional adult musicians.
