Critter Corner: Best Holiday Gifts for Seniors

Dear Magic,

I have a huge family, so every year, each of us chooses a person to buy gifts for. This year, I chose my 80-year-old great aunt, Mildred. I have no idea what to get her. I am pretty sure she has everything! Do you have any ideas for the best gifts for seniors this year?

Thanks,

Holly Daye-Giftz

Dear Holly,

It can be hard to shop for older adults, many of whom “have everything” or “want nothing”. Hopefully, I can provide you with some inspiration and ideas for the perfect gift your great aunt Mildred!

Hasbro Joy for All Companion Pup – Comforting, responsive, and never needing to be walked, this pup comes with a six-page care guide. The built-in sensors allow him to react to the senior’s touch while internal speakers let him bark when spoken to. Petting the dog makes its heart beat. This could be the best-loved gift – apart from your company — your aunt has ever received. Conveniently, the dog runs on four 1.5V alkaline batteries.

Radius Natural Grip 4-Piece Ergonomic Garden Tool Set – Does your aunt enjoy gardening? Gardening is an excellent way to get exercise while obtaining the deep satisfaction of interacting with nature. This tool set includes a trowel, a weeder, a cultivator and a transplanter. What is special about this set is that it makes it easier for those with wrist issues!

Lutron Motion Sensor Light Switch – This wonderful device senses your presence, turning on lights as you enter a room, and turning them off after you leave. Not only is the user able to move around safely, even with hands full, but will also save money on electricity.

Glare-Guard Does your aunt still drive? Every driver knows that glare can be a major issue, causing stress, headaches, or even accidents. The latest development in this area is Glare-Guard’s series of car visor extensions. The gray version is for regular day driving, and there’s a yellow version for driving at night or in snowy conditions. The third is specifically for driving into a sunrise or sunset, cutting damaging rays by up to 90%.

Walkapocket – This modern fanny pack makes it easier for your loved one to tap into the numerous health benefits of walking with the added bonus of being hands free for better balance and mobility. The Walkapocket is a sleek, convenient way to carry all sizes of phones plus cash, ID, medications, keys and necessities without being heavy or bulky.
